Reps committee pledges to boost internal security with robust legislation

The House of Representatives Committee on Interior has pledged to boost the country’s internal security through robust legislation and oversight mechanisms.

Rep. Ahmed Abdullahi, the chairman of the committee, said this at the inauguration of the committee in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mr Abdullahi said that the focus of the committee would address the nation’s security challenges, with oversight responsibilities.

This, according to him, covered the Ministry of Interior, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) and the Federal Fire Service.

He pledged legislative support to enhance the security of the citizenry while emphasising the deployment of technology to fight criminality.

“Our oversight activities will be comprehensive, ensuring value for allocated resources to the MDAs.

“Priority will be given to the welfare and provision of adequate equipment for our personnel, enabling swift responses to distress calls,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi called on his colleagues to contribute their ideas toward shaping the committee’s future, in line with the mandate of the 10th House of Representatives

“Let us collectively commit to positively contributing to the committee’s activities, justifying the confidence placed in us by the entire House,” he said.
