Anambra’s first lady, Nonye Soludo, has described education as one of the solutions to increasing global poverty, socio-economic turmoil, moral depletion, violence and political crisis.

Ms Soludo said this Thursday in Awka, at a programme to mark this year’s International Day of Education.

“The emerging realities such as technological advancements have shown that investments in education should be increased to adapt to global changes.

“Education can also solve the increasing rate of global poverty, socio-economic turmoil, moral depletion, violence and political crisis. Therefore, there is a need to fund and invest in education, and such investment has to be consistent, strategic and planned to make learning affordable, accessible and qualitative.

“Our governments should understand that such moves are imperative towards raising a resourceful population and accelerating development in the country,” she said.

The governor’s wife said the present administration in Anambra recognised the importance of adequate investment in education and had initiated policies to strengthen the sector.

“The state government recruited more teachers to end the era of classrooms without teachers and restructured the education module of the state.

“We also saw the enhancement and payment of teachers’ salaries and prompt payment of teachers’ pensions and gratuities, as well as remodelling of schools and other interventions.

“This shows that the governor is a leader who believes strongly in education,” she said.

Ms Soludo commended hardworking teachers making great sacrifices to put the state’s education on the global map.

She reassured the teachers that the current administration would always support them with professional opportunities and give them a work-friendly environment to put in their best.
