Rivers: Police arrest three suspects after attack on Wike’s father
The police in Rivers have arrested three suspects accused of detonating explosives at the worship center of Governor Nyesom Wike’s father.
Christian Universal Church International run by Nlemanya Wike was attacked with dynamite on Saturday, police said. Items in the premises were destroyed, but it was unclear how many people were injured. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Rivers police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni told Peoples Gazette on Sunday morning that the suspects were arrested while trying to escape after committing the act. Mr. Omoni did not elaborate on whether the police or members of a local vigilante group arrested the suspects.
The attack, which occurred along Azikiwe Street, Mile 3 Diobu, came weeks after assets suspected to be owned by Governor Wike were attacked along Ada George Road in downtown Port Harcourt.
The police are also still investigating that attack, the Gazette learnt, while security measures around the city had reportedly been heightened in the interim.
