The Ebonyi Council of Elders has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi for prioritising rural infrastructure and human capital development in the 13 local government areas of the state.

The chairman of the council, Benjamin Okah, in Abakaliki on Friday, said the governor’s mantra, “People’s Charter of Needs,” is a welcome development to residents, as it has positively affected all aspects of life in the state.

Mr Okah said rural infrastructure and human development, especially in education, health, and agriculture, were pertinent to the socio-economic growth of any state.

“Communities in the state are being connected through the road network. The governor awarded two-kilometre road projects to various communities. Some are already completed, while some are still ongoing.

“You know, with the road network, farmers in the rural communities can easily access their farms and transport their crops to the urban areas,” he said.

He said the governor is committed to providing dividends of democracy.

“The Economic Advisory Committee” is created to assist the state government in designing and implementing policies that will benefit the people and bring the state’s resources to the fore.

“In the area of agriculture and improving the economy, Ebonyi has been on the rise in mining its mineral resources. I commended the governor’s move to revive the Nigercem. Our state is blessed with a lot of natural resources. Apart from limestone, we have lead, salt, and zinc, among others.

“There is a policy to develop educational skills based on vocational study, and the economic committee is working closely with the governor for better implementation,” Mr Okah said.
