Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has sworn in Musa Shehu as the state head of service (HoS) and Yerima Mahmoud as the commissioner for livestock development.

The governor also swore in Abdulrahman Malik as the state statistician-general and two special advisers, Mohammed Ibrahim and Yahaya Barde.

Mr Buni, who spoke at the occasion in Damaturu on Tuesday, charged Mr Mahmoud to work hard and execute the mandate of the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development.

“It is pertinent to note that in every household in Yobe State, there is either a crop farmer, a livestock farmer, or both.

“Therefore, the establishment of the ministry of livestock development becomes necessary for the government to enhance livestock production to boost food sufficiency for consumption and exports for economic growth,” he said.

The governor assured farmers that the government would invest heavily in livestock development, particularly in establishing veterinary clinics, water plants, fodder banks, and providing vaccines against livestock diseases.

Mr Buni advised Mr Shehu to galvanise the state civil service to improve productivity and enhance service delivery.

“You should enhance teamwork, ensure delegation of responsibilities, and champion transparency and due process in conducting government business. The government will continue to accord priority to capacity building to enhance productivity and service delivery.

“Currently, 34 permanent secretaries are undergoing training at the public service institute in Abuja, with another 149 civil servants at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos,” he said.

The governor called on all the appointees to be proactive and bring in fresh ideas to facilitate effective service delivery.

“I urge you all to uphold the code of ethics and conduct yourselves in conformity with the oath of allegiance and the oath of office you have sworn to,” he said.

Mr Buni appealed to the citizenry to continue supporting and praying for the state and federal governments under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
