Gunmen kill three cops in Kwara police camp attack

Suspected bandits launched an attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three officers and leaving two others injured.

It was gathered that the incident which occured in the early hours of Saturday, threw residents into panic.

A community source told the Peoples Gazette on Saturday that the attack began around 3:30 a.m.

“Gunmen attacked the police this morning around 3:30 a.m,” a source told The Gazette. “The police did engage them but it is sad that some of them were killed in the attack.”

The state police, spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident and promised to get back with full details.

Confirming the report in a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the attack on the Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp occurred on May 2, 2026.

“This heinous and cowardly act, which claimed the lives of three gallant police officers and left several others critically injured, is strongly condemned in its entirety. 

“The fallen officers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, bravely standing to defend the safety and security of our communities. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Mr Ejire-Adeyemi said.

Kaiama and others LGAs in Kwara had witnessed several attacks in recent times, with residents calling on the government to intensify efforts to secure lives and property.
