The police in Abuja fired tear gas at some anti-SARS protesters and used batons to pummel others on Friday.

The ill treatment came as Nigerians took to the streets for the third day to demand immediate dissolution of brutal and corrupt police anti-robbery squad, SARS.

The Gazette witnessed how the protesters were marching to police headquarters when they were ambushed by a large contingent of armed officers.

Some protesters were injured in the chaos while a few others were arrested.

Yele Sowore was amongst the activists who took part in the protest Friday morning. He said he had been able to bail out four of those arrested, while efforts have intensified for others’ release.
