Lagos real estate agent arraigned for defrauding accommodation seekers

On Friday, a 32-year-old estate agent, Seun Oladipupo, was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding three accommodation seekers of N725,000.
Mr Oladipupo, who resides at No. 12 Olokode St., Alakuko, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at his residence on December 29, 2023.
Ms Mishozunnu said that the defendant collected N725,000 from the complainants— Ajoke Yahaya, Sola Kosoko, and Mr Kareem Ismail—to provide them with apartments but failed to do so.
He said all efforts made by the complainants to get back their money proved abortive.
Ms Mishozunnu said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while section 314 provides two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to steal.
The magistrate, F.D. Hughes, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case until April 26 for mention.
