Over 200 mentally challenged people evacuated from Kano streets: Official

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to evacuating mentally challenged persons from streets across the Kano metropolis and environs.
Speaking to journalists on the development on Monday in Kano, the executive secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Isyaku Kubarachi, said the measure was in line with the agency’s mandate.
According to him, the operation led to the evacuation of more than 200 mentally challenged persons currently in the custody of SEMA for proper care, rehabilitation, and possible reunification with their families.
‘’It is aimed at sanitising the metropolitan areas and addressing the challenges posed by the roaming of vulnerable persons on the streets,” Mr Kubarachi said.
He said the agency is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure the welfare of those evacuated and to provide sustainable solutions to the situation.
