A 39-year-old woman, Mercy Nwaogu,on Tuesday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, for allegedly stealing N492,000.
Nwaogu, whose house address was not provided,is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and her accomplice, currently at large, committed the offences on September. 30, 2024, at Cyan Excellence Nigeria Limited, located at Shop 7B, Ilo-Awela Road, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the duo conspired to borrow the sum of N492,000 from the company under the pretext of using the money to rent a shop.
“However, they converted the N492,000 to their personal use and failed to repay the loan when it became due,” he said.
The prosecutor said that offences contravened Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Mrs Fadairo ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with valid evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
He adjourned the case until August 13 for further hearing.
