Police nab, arraign two men for kidnapping, armed robbery

The Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Olowo Oreoluwa and Ajibola Oluwaseun in prison custody for kidnapping and armed robbery.
The defendants face a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.
The prosecutor, Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on March 25 at about 3:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
The police accused the defendants of conspiring, robbing and kidnapping a 22-year-old man, Akinwade Peter.
According to the victim’s statement at the police station, the defendants came to his house alongside four others, abducted and took him to an unknown destination.
Mr Leramo added that they later demanded a ransom of N100,000, threatening to kill the victim.
The prosecutor further told the court that Mr Akinwade phoned his sister and explained what happened to him. She sent a sum of N50,000 to his Kuda account, which he later transferred to the account of his abductors before he was released.
He urged the court to remand the defendants pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)’s office.
The defendants’ pleas were not taken.
Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case until April 7 for mention.
