The Lagos government has hosted the fifth edition of the annual Food Festival to foster growth across various food spaces and the entire agro value chain.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, also commended the state government for the initiative.
Ms Olusanya noted that the state had witnessed tremendous strides in food security and sustainability.
Ms Olusanya said that the state government in 2023 stepped up agricultural infrastructure development with the inauguration of the Imota Rice Mill.
In the first phase of the initiative, Lagos residents enjoyed a 25% discount on a variety of food items such as rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, pepper, tatashe, and onions.
Grow something in your home that you can eat; it helps lessen the burden as a society,” she said.
Ms Olusanya said that over 180,000 kg of rice were sold within the period.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said this at the fifth AgriQuest Africa Network (AQAN) Forum programme in Lagos on Thursday.
She said well-structured market systems would address wastage and other food insecurity issues in the country.
Ms Olusanya said the flag-off exercise allowed Mr Sanwo-Olu to demonstrate his love for the market men and women on Valentine’s Day.
