Mr Umar urged Nigerians to exercise caution and cooperate with security agencies to ensure peaceful demonstrations.
According to him, borstal institutions provide protective custody and rehabilitation for children in conflict.
Mr Umar stated, “Seven of the fleeing inmates have so far been recaptured and returned to custody.’’
The NCoS spokesperson stated that the Board exonerated 16 personnel found not guilty of the allegations made against them.
The communique commended the federal government’s commitment to fulfilling its electoral promises.
The NIMC had granted the NCoS the licence to conduct the registration at 256 custodial centres nationwide.
Mr Umar said the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, leading to a breach in the prison’s security infrastructure.
Mr Umar said the items were seized through increased patrols, intelligence-led operations.
The government cited the story of a prison inmate who previously had no WAEC certificate but went on to earn a bachelor’s degree, completed a master’s programme, and is now seeking a PhD.
He said the NCoS was committed to ensuring all correctional facilities fulfil its mandate of safe custody, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
