Africa has experienced seven coups since August 2020, before the one on Wednesday in Gabon. Others are Niger, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and Chad.

Mr Lamuwa said the federal government and ECOWAS commended the international community for condemning Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani-led coup.
The OIC chief denounced any attempt to seize power by force and demanded the immediate release of the president.
