Health minister Ali Pate disclosed this at an event to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife 2026.
“Health poverty affects half of the world’s population, depriving them of access to basic healthcare such as immunisation and maternal health services,” stated Mr Pate.
He said issues impeding the current state of the PHCs that would be addressed would involve malaria, immunisation, maternal and child health, and reproductive health.
“We should have a progressive approach to look at it. Since we do not criminalise malaria, why should we criminalise mental health issues?”
The federal government is advocating improved surgical procedures as part of efforts to improve the delivery of quality healthcare services.
