He said shipping companies and agents attracted 22 complaints, the highest number recorded during the quarter.
In a March 23, 2026, letter titled ‘Re: Suspension of Tariff Approval’, the council instructed MSC to comply with its earlier directive halting the increase.
NSC’s executive secretary, Pius Akutah, made the appeal on Thursday when a delegation from the western naval command paid a courtesy visit to the council’s headquarters in Lagos.
The NSC’s CEO said the recent port charge reviews were conducted strictly within the council’s statutory mandate as the Port Economic Regulator.
Mr Akutah said that port operators complained of intimidation by the police officers.
He said, “We have not properly professionalised boat making in Nigeria, that is why today we are still using wooden boats.”
