“Russia has not stopped any of its military activity. Unfortunately, it has not ceased. Ukraine will respond in a reciprocal manner,” Mr Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
“Ukraine better come to the table fast. That’s all I’m telling you,” Mr Trump told reporters on Monday.
Ukraine is preparing to hold a presidential election alongside a national referendum on a potential peace agreement with Russia.
The exchange of strikes came days after a second round of U.S.-brokered peace talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi.
The European Union has agreed to provide Ukraine with €90 billion ($105.5 billion) for 2026 and 2027, European Council president Antonio Costa said.
The debate is scheduled to continue until Monday, with a break on Sunday.
Since launching its full-scale invasion in 2022, Russia controls some 20 per cent of Ukraine.
His comments come amid continued efforts to end the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
Messrs Trump and Zelensky hoped that the cordial talks would ensure a trilateral meeting with Russian president.
Mr Zelensky said that it was time to end the war, and Russia must take the corresponding steps.
