The New York-based media rights think-tank urged Nigerian authorities to do more for press autonomy.

The group said by strengthening the right to freedom of expression, the government could ensure a future where all other human rights are adequately protected and respected in Nigeria.

The threats to their freedom to go about their reporting and story-telling fairly and accurately, are multiplying daily.
The university lecturer said the Nigeria Union of Journalists had failed to safeguard its members’ interests.
“Nigerian journalists fought very hard to achieve our democratic status and deserve a better deal unlike the current situation where many of them struggle.”
The Nigerian Guild of Editors has called on the federal government to make newsprint, broadcast equipment and other media consumables tax-free.
