The Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) has released updated rates for Anambra residents to enjoy better and more efficient service delivery in the state.

Mike Ozoemena, ASWAMA managing director, stated this in Awka on Monday.

He said the agency’s adjusted rates were to generate more funds. Mr Ozoemena added that the new rates by the government would provide enough money to clear refuse from every street in Anambra.

The ASWAMA boss explained that more waste collection trucks would be procured and the trucks fueled for the work and added that waste bins would also be purchased and placed at strategic locations across Anambra for effective waste collection and management.

Mr Ozoemena said the new rates increased slightly compared to the previous amounts households paid, disclosing that the new rate was classified according to local governments, which could be rural, semi-urban and urban.

He also mentioned that local governments in the urban category included Awka South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Aguata, Nnewi North, Idemili North and Ogbaru.

He listed semi-urban local governments as Njikoka, Idemili-South, Ihiala, Awka North, Oyi, Orumba North, Orumba South, Anaocha, Nnewi South, Dunukofia, and Anambra East.

The ASWAMA boss further stated that the rural local government areas included Ayamelum, Anambra West and Ekwusigo.
