Yobe begins rehabilitating cemeteries rain washed out dead bodies

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YoSEMA) has begun rehabilitation of the low cost and central cemeteries that rain washed out dead bodies in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade local government area.
Kaku Bukar, the community development officer of the Council, confirmed this in Gashua on Thursday.
A flood triggered by days of heavy rain recently washed out dead bodies in the cemeteries. Mr Bukar explained that the agency had provided sand, blocks, gravel, and other materials for the rehabilitation.
“I can’t give you the exact quantity of the building materials provided, but I can confirm to you that the materials had reached the graveyards since July 14 as promised by SEMA.
“The agency and some volunteer workers are currently building fences in both cemeteries. Lack of fencing is believed to be the major cause of the flood,” he said.
The officer added that the council had concluded arrangements to fill the exposed graves in the cemeteries with sand on Thursday.
Mr Bukar said filling the exposed cemeteries with sand was to prevent the spread of diseases.
Meanwhile, SEMA has registered and provided relief materials to 150 victims of a recent windstorm in the Nguru local government area.
Usman Danyaro, Nguru community development officer, stated that each victim received a mattress, plastic containers, soaps, detergents, a bag of rice, spaghetti, semovita, and sugar.
