The Lagos government has announced the extension of traffic diversion on Murtala Mohammed Way from Wednesday until September 30.

Transportation commissioner Frederic Oladeinde stated that the diversion was due to ongoing phase one of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project.

Mr Oladeinde said there would be total lane closure to allow the contractor to work without any inhibition during the construction.

He also stated that traffic on Murtala Muhammed way would be diverted to Ojuelegba-Tejuosho slip road to link Murtala Muhammed Way.

The commissioner assured that the site would be closed to ensure safety. He added that emergency vehicles would be on the ground to tow broken-down vehicles along the axis.

He also stated that signage would be placed on the access roads with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to control movement and minimise inconveniences.

In a related development, the government announced a traffic diversion plan for constructing the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge inaugurated earlier in the year.

Mr Oladeinde said the construction would be in two stages to be completed in 16 months. He added that the traffic diversion plans were also designed to suit each phase.

“Residents on Opebi should use Opebi Link Road to access Tunde Osilaja Street to connect Salvation inbound Ajanaku Street and link Opebi Road, through Thomas Ajufo to reach their desired destinations,” Mr Oladeinde said. “A portion had been created at the Sheraton-Opebi Link Bridge to enable motorists to make a U-turn into Opebi Road. Alternatively, motorists can use Toyin Street via Mobolaji Bank Anthony to link Opebi/Allen road.”
