A Jos Upper Area Court on Monday sentenced a farmer, Habibu Ali, to one-month imprisonment for concealing nine tubers of stolen yam.

Presiding judges Ghazali Adam and Hyacinth Dolnanan handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to one count of assisting in concealing the stolen items and begged the court for leniency.

The judges, however, gave Mr Ali, 40, an option of a N10,000 fine.

Prosecution counsel Ibrahim Gokwat said the case was reported by vigilantes attached to the Dilimi area in Jos.

Mr Gokwat stated that while on patrol on May 5, around the terminus market, the group arrested the convict in possession of nine tubers of yam, which he said were stolen by Auwa Suleiman.
