IGP orders movement restriction in Ekiti ahead of governorship election

Ahead of Saturday’s Ekiti governorship election, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement at the major entry and exit points of the state effective midnight on June 18.
“The Inspector General of Police equally, ordered the restriction of vehicular movements within the State particularly along the entry and exit points to Ekiti State with effect from 12:00 a.m. of Saturday 18th June, 2022 to 6:00 p.m. by 6:00pm (sic) of same date,” partly reads the statement by Abutu Sunday, police spokesperson in Ekiti state.
Mr Abutu said the restriction was aimed at warding off criminals who intend to infiltrate the state to unleash mayhem and disrupt the peaceful election process.
The statement further noted that security officers which include military personnel had been deployed to enforce the restriction.
“To this end, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the military as well as other security agencies have been deployed across the State borders to enforce the restriction order to the later and ensure criminal minded individuals do not infiltrate into the State and cause mayhem during, before and after the election.”
On Saturday, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Biodun Oyebanji, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among other contenders would slug it out at the polls to emerge as the next governor of Ekiti state.
