Manchester United woes continue under ten Hag; lose 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford

Manchester United began the new English Premier league campaign with home defeat to Brighton Sunday afternoon.
United had sought a fresh beginning after struggling in the post Sir Alex Ferguson years and finishing out the prestigious top four last season.
But new coach Erik ten Hag and a couple signing could not save the Red Devils from Brighton who humiliated them 2-1 at Old Trafford.
The unwanted season opener continues last season’s theme when they were similarly hammered 4-0 by Brighton under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Pascal Gross shocked United, tapping in Brighton’s first goal 30 minutes into the game.
Gross doubled Brighton’s lead nine minutes later, firing in another goal that left United with an uphill to climb going into the first half break.
United returned into the second half looking stronger but could not pull an equaliser.
Cristiano Ronaldo came in as substitute for Fred in the second half adding to United’s fire power.
Marcus Rashford took a good shot from a through a pass from Ronaldo but was denied by Brighton’s goalie Robert Sanchez.
An own goal by Alexis Mac Allister in the 68th minute reduced Brighton’s lead margin but could not save United from first season defeat.
With Sunday’s result, Brighton are starting the season on a good note having won three away points, while United continue the struggle to put their house in order.
