COVID-19: 27 new deaths, 1,114 infections recorded on Friday: NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, reported 27 new COVID-19 fatalities Friday, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 1,577.
The national public health agency also disclosed on its official website late Friday that 1,114 new cases of the viral disease had been recorded nationwide, taking Nigeria’s total case load to 128,674.
The new COVID-19 cases, the agency said, were reported in 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Lagos, the epicentre of the disease in Nigeria, registering the highest number of infections (408).
So far, Lagos has recorded a total of 47,879 infections, 39,571 recoveries and 311 deaths as of January 29, records by the NCDC showed.
The FCT came a distant second with 95 new infections. Plateau recorded 90 new infections; Ondo-66; Kaduna-63; Oyo-56; Borno-46; Imo-42, Edo-41 and Ogun-37.
Rivers had 31; Ekiti-25, Yobe-20, Kano and Akwa Ibom,18 each, Delta and Osun, 15 each; Kwara-11, Bayelsa-6, Nasarawa-6, Zamfara-4 and Bauchi-1.
The agency noted that at least 1,269 people had been successfully treated and discharged from the isolation centres across the country between Thursday and Friday.
Over one million Nigerians have been tested for the virus, which broke out in the country in February 2020, officials said.
Nigeria’s active COVID-19 cases in the isolation centres stood at 24,317 as of January 29.
