Governor Darius Ishaku has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to combat insecurity challenges across the country.

Taraba has been among several Nigerian states that are currently facing acute insecurity, amidst widespread abductions and killings.

While addressing journalists during his condolence visit to the residence of Salihu Dovo, chairman of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area who was kidnapped andmurdered on January 24, Mr. Ishaku called for state and local policing across the country, Channels reported.

The governor said combating insecurity would be a challenge until “we breakdown the strata of security agencies in Nigeria, particularly the police.”

The Buhari administration’s attempt to tackle insecurity all alone shows that “it has failed woefully,” he said.

”Where we copied this Constitution is the United States of America and it has federal, state, and local government police.

”Where something is bigger than the local government police, the state police comes in and where it is bigger than the state police, the federal police comes in and where it is bigger than the whole three, then the military is invited,” Mr. Ishaku said, adding that the military has become the first resort in Nigeria “because we have woefully failed.”

Mr. Buhari has repeatedly maintained that he was working to tackle the country’s insecurity. His administration has set up several security units to address the issue, with some of them yielding successes.

While decrying that he has lost count on the number of victims, the governor appealed to political office holders to collaborate in seeking a lasting solution to insecurity.

He also expressed concerns about the ongoing security crisis in Yorubaland, saying ”something is happening which desperately needs an answer.”

The governor’s comment comes days after 26 Taraba youths were kidnapped along Wukari-Takum road upon returning from a wedding in Wukari.
