OFFICIAL: Real Sociedad sign Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar

Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar has joined Real Sociedad from America in a deadline-day big money move that saw the Spanish side shelling out €20 million to secure his services till 2028.

The deal, which could shoot up to €26 million with add ons, was announced via a club statement Thursday evening.

“Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with UD Almería for the transfer of Sadiq Umar. La Real, in turn, has reached an agreement with the player until the end of the 27-28 season. He will wear number 25. The player arrived in Donostia this morning, underwent a medical examination at the Gipuzkoa , and, in the afternoon, signed his new contract,” the statement on Real’s website read.

Real Sociedad saw off competition from top clubs in Europe including league rival Villarreal and German giants Borussia Dortmund to land the goal-poacher who played an important role in Almeria’s promotion-winning campaign last season.

The 25-year-old attacker began his senior career at the Italian club, Spezia, in 2014 and has since gone ahead to feature top clubs in Europe, including Roma, Bologna, Torino, and Partizan.
