Queen Elizabeth II: Premier League postpones weekend, Monday matches

The Premier League has announced the postponement of the round of matches for matchday seven fixtures in the ongoing campaign in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday.
Premier League clubs met in a meeting on Friday morning where they paid their respects to the late queen and subsequently made the decision for matches to be postponed.
“At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game,” it said in a statement. “Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.”
Buckingham Palace announced the monarch’s death at 96 after health complications in Balmoral royal garden in Aberdeen, Scotland, on Thursday afternoon.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” said Buckingham Palace.
Her death marked an end to her 70-year reign over the United Kingdom, the longest reign by any monarch in British history.
Meanwhile, the Premier League is not the only institution to postpone sporting activities scheduled for the week as the Ireland FA also postponed football matches.
Horse racing, cricket, rugby and other sports events are also being postponed across the United Kingdom.
