A Grade I Area Court in Karu, FCT, on Thursday ordered that Abdullahi Yusuf who strangled a man in order to steal his cell phone be remanded in Keffi correctional centre pending sentencing.

The police charged Yusuf, 18, with criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and theft.

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, adjourned the case until November 1, for sentencing following a guilty plea entered by Mr Yusuf.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju told the court that on September 5, the defendant and others at large, conspired and strangled the complainant using an electric cable.

He said the defendant planned to steal the complainant’s techno cell phone worth N11,000.

Mr Adeyanju said that the defendant and his cohorts threw caution to the wind in their plan to snuff life out of the complainant.

The prosecutor said the matter was reported at the Nyanya Police Station by Isiaku Yusuf of Karu village, Abuja, and the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 250 and 290 of the Penal Code.
