Ebonyi govt restricts activities on Abakaliki stadium’s pitch

Ebonyi State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has restricted activities at the football pitch on Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium in Abakaliki to three days a week beginning from November 1.
Ben Okike, the ministry’s permanent secretary, disclosed in a statement on behalf of the commissioner, Charles Akpu-Enika, that the measure became imperative to preserve the pitch.
“We want to put the pitch in good condition for upcoming football competitions which will be staged in the stadium.
“The restriction is also to reduce pressure on the pitch’s grass, with the approach of the dry season,” he said.
Mr Okike added that the state’s sports council would soon meet with football teams affected by the restriction for “harmonisation”.
