Police arraign man over stabiliser theft in Osun

The Police in Osun on Tuesday arraigned 23-year-old Abdullahi Sheu at the Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of a stabiliser and other goods.
The prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 2 around 2:00 p.m. at Sabo Area, Ile-Ife.
Mr Osanyintuyi said the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the offence.
He added that the defendant broke into the residence of one Adeboye Amos and took away one automatic voltage regulator with stabiliser valued at N55,000.
According to him, other items stolen are a standing fan costing N10,000 with a window blind worth N25,000, all with a total value of N90,000.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendant escaped from lawful custody to avoid facing trial in the case of stealing against him.
Mr Osanyintuyi explained that the offence contravened the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, intent to commit a felony and contempt of custody.
Magistrate O.B. Adediwura did not grant the defendant bail but ordered his remand at the Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre.
Ms Adediwura said this would serve as a deterrent to others and adjourned the case until December 12 for a hearing on the matter.
