The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 47- year-old man, Israel Chukwuka, be remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody for defiling his neighbour’s 12- year-old daughter.

Mr Chukwuka, a tricycle rider, is charged with defilement.

Chief magistrate B. O Osunsanmi did not take the plea of Mr Chukwuka for want of jurisdiction.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until October 19 for the director of public prosecution’s advice.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offence was committed on August 17 at the defendant’s residence.

The policeman said the suspect fled when he sighted a neighbour in the area.

The offence contravenes section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
