Morocco 2022: CAF announces $1.5 million prize money for Women’s Champions League
The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, billed to kickoff in Morocco later this month.
Multiple stories ensued weeks ago that teams that would be competing in this year’s competition would not be receiving any prize money for the tournament.
However, the body governing football in Africa has now revealed that prize money in the region of $1.5 million will be shared with the eight teams that will be participating in the 2022 competition.
The winning club will receive USD 400,000 in cash prize, the Runners Up will receive USD 250,000, the two semi finalists each receive USD 200 000.
The two clubs that will finish third position in their respective group will each receive USD 150,000 and the other two clubs in the last position will each receive USD 100,000.
Bayelsa Queens is the only Nigerian club that will feature at the tournament scheduled to start on 30 October – 13 November 2022 across three venues in two cities in Morocco.
The CAF Women’s Champions League began in 2021 with the inaugural tournament being held in Egypt.
South Africa side Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 in the final to be crowned the maiden winners.
