Former England and Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been named Middlesbrough’s new head coach.

Carrick’s appointment comes after he agreed to personal terms with the English Championship club, marking his first step into full-time management since leaving his coaching role at Manchester United last year.

The former Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup winner replaces Chris Wilder at the Riverside Stadium.

Carrick’s backroom staff will be joined by former Real Madrid and Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate as first-team coach.
