Dauda Biu, the acting corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has tasked special marshals of the corps to discharge their duties with commitment and professionalism.

Mr Biu gave the charge at the inauguration of a one-day workshop for special marshals in FRSC Zone 3 on Saturday in Yola.

The theme for the workshop is “The responsibility of special marshals in the face of a new administration in the corps, in which special and regular marshals were expected to respond to”.

Represented by Ishaku Gbami, the zonal commander in charge of the zone, Mr Biu said the workshop was to further acquaint the participants with FRSC operations on the expected responsibilities of the special marshals.

According to Mr Biu, special marshals have voluntary obligations to the corps, and are expected to reach certain targets under its corporate strategic goals.

He, therefore, tasked the special marshals to be committed to conducting highway patrol, research, sponsorship of programmes and organising road safety clubs’ activities to encourage volunteerism.

“Special marshals must embody professionalism in their affairs, especially during patrol and other related activities of the corps,” he said.

He reiterated the corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads and reducing crashes, adding that proactive strategies had been employed to achieve the objectives.

Earlier, Markus Peter, zonal coordinator of the special marshal, commended the corps for their opportunity to serve and contribute towards curbing road crashes.

He said special marshals played a significant role in monitoring motorists and other road users, providing positive feedback to the corps, conduct traffic control and rescue operations.

Also, Yelwa Dio, FRSC sector commander in Yola, said the corps had embarked on “Zero Road Crashes”, as part of the ember months campaign in the state.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri lauded the corps for its sensitisation programme awareness on traffic rules to prevent road accidents.

Represented by Musa Jika, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Fintiri pledged support to the corps to enable it to discharge its mandate effectively.
