Twitter rolls out $8 monthly fee for Blue subscription, verification

Days after owner Elon Musk proposed the notion of a new verification mechanism, Twitter Inc. has begun rolling out its $8 per month subscription for its Blue service and verified check mark.
The version notes for Twitter’s most recent update, which was made available on Saturday, stated that after users pay the $8 monthly fee, the coveted blue checkmark would display next to their profile, much as it does for celebrities, organizations, and public figures.
Twitter added that the new verification mechanism would enable users to submit lengthier videos and earn priority ranking in comments, mentions, and searches. The company also said that it would reduce the number of adverts that members see on the network.
The most recent upgrade demonstrates Mr Musk’s rapid transformation of the social media company he recently purchased. In the week after acquiring legal control, the billionaire fired over half of the site’s employees, as well as the majority of its top executives.
Mr Musk is believed to have championed the Twitter Blue subscription plan as a strategy to address the social media platform’s dwindling revenue.
Peoples Gazette reported in October that Mr Musk planned to make verification a Twitter Blue feature and raise the subscription service’s cost to a monthly $20 mandatory fee required for verified users to retain their blue tick badge.
However, the billionaire later reduced the subscription fee to $8 to allow more users access to the Twitter Blue features.
