Calabar Carnival: Civil Defence assures tourists of adequate security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River has assured residents and tourists planning to attend the annual Calabar carnival of adequate security during and after the festival.
Samuel Fadeyi, state commandant of the corps, gave the assurance in an interview on Monday in Calabar.
Mr Fadeyi said that the carnival was also coming at a time when political activities and campaigns had commenced for different parties, adding that the command is working assiduously to ensure peace and unity in the state.
He said the command was working closely with trusted members of the public, who usually avail them with useful and timely information, to respond to cases of emergencies.
“Some of the successes we have recorded in this command came from our sustained collaboration with members of the public.
“As we speak, we are combing the dark areas to ensure we have a hitch-free carnival, a hitch-free Christmas and a hitch-free politicking in the state.
“All the security agencies are working in synergy to achieve this goal. Also, I can tell you that the Nigerian Navy are on the waterfront and also on land assisting us in this regard.
“I want to use this medium to state that NSCDC in Cross River is ever ready and committed towards ensuring the peace and safety of the citizenry at all times,” he said.
He urged residents in the state to always report all forms of suspicious movements around them to any security agency in the state for prompt action.
