Nasarawa Assembly passes bill to establish infectious diseases centre

The assembly said this was to tackle diseases and create employment opportunities in the state.

The House of Assembly in Nasarawa has passed a bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Infectious Diseases and Research Centre (NASIDARC) and Other Matters Connected Therein.

The assembly said this was to tackle diseases and create employment opportunities in the state.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the House speaker, announced the bill’s passage at plenary in Lafia on Monday.

The speaker said the centre would detect, prevent and control diseases in the state if established.

“This bill, if finally assented to by His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, it will improve the general health status of our people and will also create more job opportunities in the state.

“A bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Infectious Diseases and Research Centre (NASIDARC) and Other Matters Therein is read for the third term and passed,” he said.

The speaker directed the house clerk, Ego Mai-Keffi, to produce a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.

“I hereby direct the Clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the Bill for the purpose of vetting before transmitting it to His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, for his further necessary action,” he stressed.

Earlier, Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion for the Bill to scale third reading.

Mohammed Alkali, the deputy chief whip of the house, seconded the motion, following which the house unanimously passed the bill into law.
