FRSC, others donate to accident victims in Borno

The Borno Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has presented toiletries and detergents to managements of Borno Specialists Hospital and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Speaking at the two separate ceremonies on Saturday in Maiduguri, the State Sector Commander, Utlen Boyi, said the gesture was part of activities to mark the week long World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
The items were provided in collaboration with Special Marshals, members of National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Corps Members Road Safety Club.
Mr Boyi, who said most road accidents were caused by human errors, urged motorists to observe speed limits, ensure good tires and avoid overload.
“If you are going far, start the journey very early instead of starting late and speeding to reach your destination.
“Passengers need to speak out and caution drivers that are not doing the right thing,” Mr Boyi said.
In his remarks, the Borno Coordinator of Special Marshal, Mohammed Dahaya, said the event was to remember victims of road accidents and draw attention to the need to reduce it.
Mr Dahaya reiterated the commitment of special marshals to continue to complement the effort of FRSC in ensuring road safety and sanity on the roads.
Also, the Borno Chairman of NARTO, Jidda Bishara, who also reiterated the commitment of the association to road safety, said the association was engaged in a series of workshops for drivers on road safety.
In their responses, Hanna Bulus, the Chief Nursing Officer of Specialist Hospital, and Prof. Sanusi Ibrahim in Charge of Clinical Services of University Teaching Hospital, lauded the gesture to the two hospitals as timely.
They also urged other organisations and associations to emulate the gesture by supporting public hospitals and patients.
Some of the activities lined up for the weeklong event include Special Juma’at Prayers held on Friday to be followed by Church Service on Sunday.
