Host Team Delta has won the first gold medal of the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival which kicked off Tuesday (yesterday) in Asaba, Delta State.

The gold medal came in the cycling event, with Team Delta cyclists defeating their counterparts from three other states including Team Oyo, Team Lagos and Team Plateau in the 12km race in the early hours of today.

The race was contested by both male and female cyclists on the Igbuzor road.

However, Team Edo and Team Rivers experienced hard-luck as they were disqualified from the event after their failure to meet up with the minimum female cyclists required for the race.
