The Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, says passenger train services will run from Abuja to Kaduna on Monday, December 5, eight months after the service was suspended due to terrorists attack on the route.

NRC managing director Fidet Okhiria said on Saturday in a statement that a tweak has been made on operational time and boarding requirements for passengers.

The first train will depart Rigasa train station in Kaduna State to Abuja by 8:00 a.m. while the first trip out of Abuja will depart the Idu train station to Kaduna State by 9:45 a.m., according to the statement.

Passengers will now be required to tender their National Identity Number (NIN) and valid boarding ticket before boarding the train, Mr Okhiria stated.

He also announced that the purchase of tickets by proxy is only limited to minors attached to a specified number of adult passengers.

As part of the new development, the NRC explained that online and mobile app ticketing would be available from 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 4, while the ticket offices at the train stations will open from 6:30 a.m. on Monday, December 5.

On March 29, 2022, NRC suspended its trail services from Abuja to Kaduna following the terrorist attack on a moving passenger train that led to the destruction of train tracks as well as the death of a few passengers and the abduction of over 60 others on March 28.
