The police in Nasarawa have taken a 75-year-old man into custody for allegedly defiling his four-year-old niece in the Obi Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesman, Ramhan Nansel, stated in Lafia on Sunday that a report was made to the police after the incident on Saturday, leading to the arrest of the septuagenarian.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and his niece are residents in the same house where he lured the victim into his room and wilfully had carnal knowledge of her.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital for a medical examination, where a doctor confirmed that her hymen was broken,” Mr Nansel stated.

The police spokesman added that the suspect would be arraigned if found guilty.
