The Cross River Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,800 personnel for the Calabar Carnival and Christmas festivities in the state.
This is contained in a statement by Eremi John, the corps public relations officer, on Saturday in Calabar.
On their activities, Samuel Fadeyi, the state commandant, said the deployment became necessary in view of the festive season coming with a high influx of people within and outside the state .
“In order to ensure the protection of lives and property, the NSCDC has made a deployment of more than 1,800 personnel across the state.
“These personnel would be in markets, worship centres, gardens, tourists and other recreational facilities in the state to ensure safety during and after the festive season,” he disclosed.
While wishing residents and visitors a merry Christmas and urging them to preach peace, Mr Fadeyi encouraged everyone to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
He added that the command was working round the clock to ensure adequate security for all and sundry
