Title chase suffers setback as Manchester City drop points against Everton

Notwithstanding City’s 75 per cent ball possession and 16 shots on target against Everton’s 25 per cent and two shots on target, the match ended 1-1.

Manchester City suffered a setback in their chase for the title this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad stadium on Saturday by Everton.

With 75 per cent ball possession and 16 shots on target against Everton’s 25 per cent ball possession and two shots on target, City played well but were denied three points.

Prolific Erling Haaland fired Manchester City ahead in the 24th minute, netting his 27th of the campaign, leaving Everton behind into the second half.

Lampard’s boys, however, returned into the second half to share points with City on their home turf.

Demarai Gray’s thunderbolt in the 64th minute levelled for Everton, forcing Manchester City to share points despsite playing so hard. 

Manchester City first suffered a shocking defeat to Brentford before World Cup break, falling five points behind league leaders Arsenal. 

With Saturday’s draw, Manchester City, with 36 points in 16 games, are now seven points behind the Gunners, maintaining second position on EPL log.

Everton are now 16th on the EPL log with 15 points in 17 games.
