Police nab driver for stealing

On Wednesday, the Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, remanded a driver, John Isah, in prison custody for stealing valuables from the neighbourhood.
The police charged Mr Isah with housebreaking, theft, belonging to a gang of thieves, criminal intimidation and continuous nuisance after a court injunction to discontinue.
The judge, Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned the case until February 8 for mention.
Mr Mayana ordered that the defendant be remanded in Keffi Correctional Centre, pending investigation.
Prosecution counsel Olanrewaju Osho told the court that the matter was reported by a team of policemen attached to the Karu police station.
Mr Osho told the court that the defendant had been on the police wanted list for seven years for various offences. During that period, he had dispossessed the people of the Karu community of their valuables.
The prosecutor further said the information received was that the defendant has been intimidating the entire Karu community, and the estimate of valuables stolen by him are yet unknown.
Mr Osho said during the police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant smoked and sold different types of hard drugs.
He said during Mr Isah’s arrest, he was found with dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
