The State Security Service (SSS) says it intercepted syndicates allegedly selling the newly redesigned naira notes across the country.

A statement by Peter Afunanya, SSS spokesperson on Monday in Abuja, said operatives of the service intercepted the syndicates during an operation.

SSS also accused some bank officials of complicity.

“Consequently, the service warns the currency racketeers to desist from this ignoble act,” the secret police said. “Appropriate regulatory authorities are, in this same vein, urged to step up monitoring and supervisory activities to expeditiously address the emerging trends.”

The statement said the SSS had ordered its commands and formations to ensure that people and groups engaged in the illegal sale of the banknotes were identified.

SSS urged Nigerians with useful information relating to the sales of the new currency to pass the same to relevant authorities.
