Court sends man to jail for burgling Lagos supermarket

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday sentenced a 36-year-old man, Kenny Michael, to one month in jail for stealing many items worth N185,540 from a supermarket at Ojodu, Lagos.
Mr Michael was charged with stealing to which he pleaded guilty.
Magistrate O.A. Daodu sentenced Mr Michael to one month imprisonment without an option of fine.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that Mr Michael broke into Winnie Supermarket on Ogudu Road, Ojodu at different times and stole from the supermarket.
Mr Bassey said that the convict had between October, 2022 and January 10, this year stolen many items from the supermarket according to the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) in the supermarket.
He said that Mr Michael, in October, 2022 stole six bottles of ‘colour me’ perfumes worth N7,500 each and all valued at N45,000.
The prosecutor told the court that on December 22, 2022, at the same supermarket, the convict also stole four bottles of ‘colour me’ perfumes all valued at N30,000.
He said on January 10, Mr Michael returned to the supermarket and stole seven bottles of ‘colour me’ perfumes, all valued at N52,500, a can of Maltina drink valued N150 and five bottles of cascade water, valued N370.
“Others are a packet of serviette paper valued N300.00 and a packet of bubble gum candle sweet valued N2,100, all totalling N55,420,” the prosecutor said.
