Another earthquake struck Turkey and Syria just two weeks after devastating twin quakes had hit both countries, which have claimed the lives of more than 46,000 people, including that of Ghana international footballer, Christian Atsu.

According to the New York Times, a powerful new 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Uzunbag, in the Hatay Province of Turkey, which is one of the areas most affected by the earlier quakes that occurred on February 6.

The incident happened just minutes past 5 pm on Monday, near the area where many people, traumatised by the earlier quake, had pitched their tents.

The United States Geological Survey said the same area had suffered severe damages after the initial quake as the terror spread across the quake zone. People were being evacuated from a hotel in Adana, where some buildings collapsed amid tears.

Authorities in Turkey have also urged residents in the quake zone to stay away from damaged buildings and the Mediterranean coastline, fearing that the sea level could rise.

Over 46,000 people have died from the earlier earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria with the death toll expected to increase as more than 264,000 apartments were destroyed in Turkey.
