Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force over the bandits’ attack on Saturday in which two police officers died in the Maru Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Matawalle in a statement on Monday in Gusau by his media aide, Zailani Bappa, described the attack as callous and an act of cowardice.

He said the government was aware of the desperate attempt by the bandits to give an impression of supremacy after they had been weakened in recent times.

The governor assured that the attack would not slow down the tempo of security operatives in exerting more pressure on the criminals.

Matawalle pledged more support to security operatives and advised citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements around them.

“The state government condoles with the Nigeria Police Force, the Organised Vigilance Group and families of those who heroically lost their lives in the attack while carrying out their official duty,” he added.

Kazeem Raheem, the divisional police officer in Maru and Rabi’u Umar, were killed by the bandits during the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara, Kolo Yusuf, had reassured the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in a condolence message to the families of the deceased officers.

Mr Yusuf said that the command had deployed a tactical team led by DCP Operations, Iliyasu Kwarbai, to track the killers.
