The police command in Adamawa has distributed anti-riot equipment to divisions and operational units ahead of the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The command’s spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement in Yola on Tuesday, said the anti-riot and crowd control gadgets were distributed to ensure effective policing during the polls.

“The gadgets were distributed ahead of time so that our officers and men could be trained on how to use them.

“The essence is to enhance service delivery. They will ease the duties of the personnel deployed to polling units and collation centres,” he said.

The spokesman said the command was fully prepared for the elections.

“Men of tactical teams and materials needed to ensure effective security during the election have been deployed,” he said.

Mr Nguroje thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, for the operational support to the command.

He said the gadgets would not only be a morale booster but also enhance the effective performance of personnel during the elections.

He assured the public of adequate security and urged them to go out and exercise their franchise without fear.
